4.5 Taxonomies

Taxonomy models are used to capture interrelated sets of concepts that are subjects for instruction. The basic element of such models are are called Taxons. These elements provide a Description attribute that can be used to define the concept.

The taxons in Taxonomy models can be arranged into hierarchies and networks. The Subtopic relationships can be used to associate one taxon with another. Taxonomy models also support a Synonym element that can be used to define alternative identities for taxons. The Renames relationship is used to associate a Synonym with a taxon that it renames.

Taxonomy models can be interrelated when that they contain shared concepts. These interrelationships can be formed by creating a reference to a taxon (TaxonRef) from one Taxonomy model in another Taxonomy model. References are created by holding the Ctrl and Shift keys when dropping a taxon dragged from a Taxonomy model into the Taxonomy model currently being edited.
